In my opinion, the main theme in the book The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau is teamwork. To prove it, I’ve put together a few examples. Number one is that when the instructions were found, although Poppy found them, Doon and Lina had to work together to decipher them. Number two is that alone, neither Doon or Lina could have lifted a boat into the river, but together they did it. And finally, Poppy found the journal in the route out of the city, but Doon and Lina figured out what it was. Overall, the theme really seems to be teamwork.
