City of Ember: Quote

The quote “The main thing to do is pay attention. Pay close attention to everything, notice what no one else notices. Then you'll know what no one else knows, and that's always useful,” is very important to the plot of the book The City of Ember because of many different reasons.
The first reason is that if it wasn’t for Doon Harrow noticing various things in “The Instructions”, as Lina Mayfleet calls them, the duo would have never found out about the mayor’s deception. Of course, that backfired because the Guard, Ember’s security system, was corrupted by the mayor when they found out, and then Doon and Lina were set up to be arrested for “spreading vicious rumors”.
The second is that along with the mayor’s storeroom, Doon’s discoveries also allowed Lina and him to decipher “The Instructions”, which were actually titled “Instructions for Egress”. Thanks to him, they were able to escape Ember, and I doubt that will be the last of his accomplishments.
And finally, little Poppy used this quote, in the form of her natural curiosity, to discover a journal which explained where Doon and Lina came from. They were very excited to read this, and if it wasn’t for Poppy, they never would have found it.
The quote “The main thing to do is pay attention. Pay close attention to everything, notice what no one else notices. Then you'll know what no one else knows, and that's always useful,” has proved itself to be one of the most essential quotes in the book The City of Ember. Most likely, it will have the same sort of effect on the next book in the series, The People of Sparks. And it applies to real life too, but I don’t need to elaborate on that, because all you have to do is think about it and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
